The Senegal Parrot: History, Appearance, Care & Lifespan

Senegal parrots are native to the woodlands and savannas of West Africa, particularly Senegal and surrounding regions.


They are small to medium-sized parrots. They have a vibrant green plumage with a gray head, yellow belly, and a distinctive orange or yellow patch on their chest.


Senegal parrots are known for their ability to mimic and learn a vocabulary of words. They have clear speech and  understanding of human language.


They have a varied diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and commercial parrot pellets. Fresh water should be provided daily.


Senegal parrots require a spacious cage, stimulation, social interactionagrooming,  balanced diet, and regular veterinary check-ups.


Senegal parrots have an average lifespan of 20 to 30 years in captivity, but with proper care, they can live up to 50 years.
