American Eskimo Dog Breed information

History

The American Eskimo Dog breed originated from the Spitz family of dogs in Germany. The breed was developed in the 19th century and was originally known as the German Spitz. The breed was used as a watchdog, circus performer, and even as a companion dog.

Appearance

The breed typically weighs between 10-35 pounds and stands around 9-19 inches tall. Females are generally smaller than males. They are known for their thick, fluffy white coat.

Personality and Temperament

American Eskimo Dog is a playful, energetic breed that makes a great family pet. The breed is known for its loyalty and affection towards its owners. The breed is also highly intelligent and can be trained to do a variety of tasks.

Training and Exercise

They have a thick, fluffy coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting and tangling.  They are prone to dental problems, so it is important to establish a dental care routine early on.
